Department of Political Science, St. Columba’s College, Hazaribag has long been recognized as one of the pioneer departments in the College. In St. Columba’s College, Hazaribag, First Arts course started in 1899 with the name of Political Philosophy, B.Sc. course started in 1967 with the same discipline Political Philosophy and in 1968 Political Science Honours course was implemented. The college implemented all courses available in lieu of the declaration of First University Act, 1904 by Lord Curzon.
Department of Political Science was officially established in the College on 15 January, 1968 with two prominent teachers, Dr. B. P. Yadav and Prof. S.K. Moitra. Post-graduation study was established in the campus in 1982 under the then Ranchi university, and now working under Vinoba Bhave University, Ranchi. Students of the department prepare themselves for active citizenship by becoming astute observers of their own government and political systems around the world.
