1899 ई0 में स्थापित संत कोलम्बा महाविद्यालय, हजारीबाग विविध शैक्षिक गतिविधियों का संचालन करता हुआ 1954 में स्नातक स्तरीय हिन्दी विषय का शिक्षण तथा 1982 ई0 में स्नातकोत्तर शिक्षा की शुरूआत करता है। हिन्दी विषय के शिक्षण के साथ ही हजारीबाग में एक नया अध्याय प्रारम्भ होता है। हिन्दी भाषी इस प्रदेश के लोगों के लिए सफलता के नये द्वार खुलते हैं। निरंतर गतिशील इस विभाग से पढ़कर निकलने वाले शिक्षार्थी सामाजिक दायित्वों का निर्वाह करते हुए विभिन्न रोजगारों में प्रवेश कर सेवा-भावना से राष्ट्रीय चरित्र निर्मित कर रहे हैं।

ENGLISH

The English Department is staffed by experienced faculty members, including Dr. Satyendra Kumar, Prof. Komal Barjo, and Prof. Shaweta Singh. Established in 1899, St. Columba’s College is a government institution affiliated with Vinoba Bhave University and accredited by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college is located at Heranganj, NH 33, Ranchi Patna Road, Hazaribag, Jharkhand, India.

ECONOMICS

One of the oldest disciplines to be introduced in the college, the subject of Economics made its beginning in 1899 as a First Arts subject of ‘Political Economics’ with the inception of the college. In 1904, graduation level studies began in Economics. The department of economics was however, founded in 1939, with Bachelor of Economics at the Honors level being introduced, with Dr. Shishir kr. Bose, renowned professor, as the first head of the department. Numerous stalwarts in the field of economics served the department since then, making the discipline, one of the most sought after subject in the college and in the entire region of Jharkhand and Bihar. Another feather in the glorious cap of the department was added in 1973, when post-graduate studies in Economics were introduced in the college. The department has been blessed with faculty members who have been renowned teachers as well as administrative laurels. The college now provides opportunity to study Economics at Honors level in under-graduation along with post-graduation in the subject. It is one of the most sought after courses in the entire university and holds a prestigious position being recognized as a reputed center of learning of economics.
